art challenges

Being stuck at home can get a little... boring? Below are some ideas for art-based activities you can try just to break up your day a bit. These are not intended to be assigned projects - they are just some ideas for you to try. That said, please feel free to email them to me when you're done any of them and i will post them to this page. These are good ideas meant for all of my classes, no matter which level. Have fun!

Google Arts& Culture - This is a Google project which aims to bring together galleries, museums, artists and exhibits. There are several different ideas on this page you could try. My suggestion for our first art challenge comes from this site.

Both of these websites are great for finding new artists and artwork - Juxtapoz and Escape Into Life.

And have you ever checked out the Metropolitan Museum of Art website?? Dang, good stuff.

Or how about watching some of these video streams of great artists' work from Contemporary Art Issue

Art Challenge #3

Fluorescents. I hate fluorescent colours. But unfortunately over the years I've accidentally ended up with a few supplies that are all in those incredibly bright colours. So art challenge number 3 - can you make me a project using fluorescent colours that I will actually like? If you accept the challenge you can just ask me to use these gross materials, or maybe you have a few at home. I bet some highlighters are probably lurking in a junk drawer in your kitchen. Good luck - you're going to need it...

Art Challenge #2

InkTober is here! This year's prompt list is right here. If you want to submit to the InkTober site that's fine - they have the idea that you will create a pen and ink version of these prompts. But the main idea is that you try and make time to draw every day in October, no matter the medium. Just take a few minutes to make art. Show me your collection at the end of the month for a bonus.

Art Challenge #1

Blue pens are the best. Often relegated to not taking and doodling, blue pens have a certain colour that just looks good against a white paper background. Also i bet you have one at home. So take a look at these cool blue pen drawings by Kevin Lucbert

What I want you to do is try copying one of these drawings to get warmed up. Look at the interesting use of the white negative space in each of these drawings. Choose your favorite and give it a try.

Now that you've practiced a bit, spend some time making your own! Feel free to just layer doodles, or if you want go ahead and build a scene.  But think about your composition and your use of the blank white spaces. Then send it to me for feedback!
